A native of Melbourne and a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, drummer and composer Chris Broomhead completed a Master of Arts (Music Performance) at Monash University and has studied with Tony Floyd, Dave Beck, Mike Jordan, Alex Pertout, Ian Whitehurst and Jordan Murray.

As well as performing regularly with a variety of artists, Chris is leader of Refraction, a trio project that showcases his compositions and which features himself on drums, Brenton Foster on Piano and Marty Holoubek on double bass.

He is co-leader of jazz fusion group EQ along with guitarist Chris Bieniek and bassist Kit Riley, and together they have released two recordings – their self-titled debut album in 2007 and its follow-up To Speak in 2012. Both albums have been released on Australian jazz-fusion label Vorticity Music.

He is also a member of alternative country-rock group The Long Stand who will be releasing their debut album in 2014.
